Qualcomm Unveils Snapdragon 8s Gen 4: A Powerhouse Mobile Chipset
Qualcomm has officially launched the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, the newest addition to its high-performance mobile chipset family. Internally identified as SM8735, the chip is built on TSMC’s 4nm N4P process, offering significant advancements over its predecessors. Unlike the flagship Snapdragon 8 Gen 4, the 8s Gen 4 retains the Kryo CPU instead of transitioning to the newer Oryon cores.

Powerful CPU and GPU Performance
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 boasts an impressive CPU configuration, consisting of:
- One Cortex-X4 core clocked at 3.2GHz
- Three Cortex-A720 cores running at 3.0GHz
- Two Cortex-A720 cores at 2.8GHz
- Two additional Cortex-A720 cores at 2.0GHz
According to Qualcomm, this setup delivers 31% better performance than the previous Snapdragon 8s Gen 3, while consuming 39% less power.
On the graphics front, the Adreno 825 GPU offers a substantial 49% improvement in graphics performance. It also supports on-device ray tracing and incorporates Snapdragon Elite Gaming technologies like Game Super Resolution 2.0 and Adreno Image Motion Engine 2.0, ensuring an enhanced gaming experience.
AI and Imaging Advancements
The Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 also excels in AI processing, thanks to its Hexagon NPU, which provides a 44% increase in AI performance. This will lead to improved on-device AI capabilities, enabling smarter, more efficient operations.
For imaging, the chipset integrates an 18-bit triple ISP, capable of handling up to 320MP camera sensors and supporting 4K HDR video recording at 60fps, making it ideal for high-end photography and videography.
Connectivity and Future-Proof Features
Connectivity options on the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 include the Snapdragon X75 modem, offering 5G download speeds of up to 4.2Gbps, although it supports sub-6GHz frequencies. The chip also includes cutting-edge technologies such as Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0, and Qualcomm XPAN technology, which allows for wireless audio transmission using Wi-Fi.
Additionally, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 4 supports UFS 4.0 storage, LPDDR5X RAM, and USB 3.1 Gen 2, ensuring fast data transfer speeds and reliable performance across various applications.
Availability
The iQOO Z10 Turbo will be the first device to feature the new Snapdragon 8s Gen 4, with its release scheduled for later this month. Xiaomi, Oppo, and Meizu are also expected to incorporate this advanced chipset into their upcoming smartphones in the coming months.
