Qatar, Lebanon Hail Iran-Israel Ceasefire, urge Gaza Aggression Halt

The prime ministers of Qatar and Lebanon jointly welcomed the ceasefire agreement between Iran and Israel, stressing the urgent need for peace in the region.

In a press conference following Iran’s missile attack on a US air base in Qatar—carried out in response to American strikes on Iranian nuclear sites—Qatar’s PM Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani and Lebanon’s PM Nawaf Salam condemned the escalation. They both demanded an immediate halt to Israel’s aggression in Gaza, where over 50,000 people have reportedly been killed since October 7, 2023. The Qatari PM affirmed his country’s commitment to facilitating a ceasefire in Gaza.

The Qatari prime minister expressed surprise over Iran’s missile launch targeting the US base, clarifying that all missiles but one were intercepted. He stated that any attack on Qatar’s soil is unacceptable. Additionally, he urged the US to restart nuclear negotiations with Iran to ensure long-term stability in the region. He confirmed that US President Donald Trump had requested Qatar to mediate with Iran to help broker the ceasefire.

Both leaders emphasized that Gaza’s humanitarian crisis is at the heart of the region’s instability.
