Beware of Fake E-Challan Alerts Punjab Authority Issues Warning

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority (PSCA) has issued an alert warning citizens about fake e-challan messages circulating in Punjab. The authority said scammers are sending fraudulent SMS notifications from unauthorized numbers.

According to a PSCA spokesperson, these fake messages are being sent from the number 8070. He clarified that all official e-challan SMS notifications in Punjab come only from the government-designated number, 9915. Citizens should ignore any messages from other numbers.

The spokesperson emphasized that Safe City officials never request cash payments, bank account information, or credit and debit card details through SMS. People were advised not to click on suspicious links or make payments through unverified websites.

An authentic e-challan message always provides complete details of the violation. This includes the time, location, and nature of the traffic offense. Messages lacking this information should be treated as fraudulent.

The PSCA urged residents of Punjab to stay vigilant and report any suspicious messages immediately. Citizens can contact the Emergency Helpline at 15 or reach out to the FIA Cyber Crime Wing for assistance.

Authorities highlighted that awareness is essential to prevent falling victim to scams. They also advised citizens to verify the sender’s number before taking any action regarding e-challan notifications.

The warning comes amid rising reports of cyber fraud targeting traffic fines in the region. The PSCA continues to monitor these cases and collaborates with law enforcement to protect citizens from scams.

Residents are encouraged to share this information with friends and family. Using official channels and following safety guidelines will ensure that personal and financial information remains secure.
