Traffic police in Punjab have intensified action against one-way violations in an effort to reduce accidents and improve road safety.
According to officials, 29,704 challans were issued this month for driving the wrong way. The figure shows a sharp increase from last month’s 15,000 challans, reflecting nearly 98 percent growth in enforcement.
The Lahore Traffic Police reported that over 10,000 fines were issued in the provincial capital alone. Motorists caught violating the one-way rule faced fines of Rs. 2,000 each.
Deputy Inspector General of Traffic Punjab, Muhammad Waqas Nazir, instructed all Chief Traffic Officers (CTOs) and District Traffic Officers (DTOs) to strengthen monitoring. He emphasized that enforcement teams must remain active in the field at all times.
Officials explained that one-way violations are a leading cause of road accidents. To address this, a strict zero-tolerance policy has been introduced. Nazir further directed traffic authorities to take special measures to ensure smoother and safer traffic flow across the province.
Police also highlighted that road discipline is essential for public safety. Citizens were urged to follow traffic rules not only to avoid fines but also to protect lives. Authorities reminded drivers that ignoring regulations puts both motorists and pedestrians at serious risk.
The campaign is part of broader efforts in Punjab to strengthen traffic management and reduce road mishaps. By focusing on awareness and strict enforcement, traffic police hope to build safer roads and promote responsible driving habits.
Officials confirmed that action against violators will continue in the coming weeks. They reiterated that improving road safety requires cooperation between authorities and citizens across all districts of Punjab.
