Punjab to Launch Technology-Driven Smart Safe Cities Across 98 Tehsils

Punjab authorities have announced plans to establish Smart Safe Cities in 98 tehsils across the province. The formal agreement was signed on Wednesday at the Central Police Office.

A spokesperson for the Punjab Safe Cities Authority said Brigadier Azmat Shabbir, Managing Director of the National Radio and Telecommunication Corporation (NRTC), and M Ahsan Yunus, Managing Director of the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, signed the agreement.

Under the agreement, NRTC will develop and operationalize Smart Safe Cities projects in all 98 tehsils. The program includes advanced surveillance systems, intelligent traffic management tools, and technology-driven public safety measures.

Authorities have set December 31, 2026, as the deadline for completing the full rollout. The initiative aims to enhance security, reduce crime rates, and improve urban management across Punjab.

The Punjab Safe Cities Authority said the project will integrate modern technology with law enforcement operations. CCTV networks, smart traffic systems, and emergency response coordination will be major components of the initiative.

Officials highlighted that the program will cover both major cities and smaller tehsils, ensuring consistent monitoring and rapid response capabilities throughout Punjab. The initiative is also expected to boost public confidence in safety and law enforcement.

The collaboration with NRTC marks a significant step toward modernizing urban security. Authorities said the project will strengthen policing, improve emergency services, and support overall community safety.

The Safe Cities Authority also stated that training and capacity-building programs will accompany the technology rollout. Police officers and local administrators will receive training to operate the new systems efficiently and effectively.
