Punjab’s traffic police have intensified their crackdown on underage driving, following directives from Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz to enhance road safety across the province.
The Additional IG Traffic has ordered all Chief and District Traffic Officers to take strict and impartial action against underage drivers.

In May 2025 alone, over 50,000 underage drivers have been penalized across Punjab, with more than 19,600 cases reported in Lahore. As part of the campaign, more than 2,900 vehicles and motorcycles have been impounded.
Authorities issued 2,000 challans to underage drivers, with many also facing impoundment. Their parents have been subjected to firm legal measures, including the submission of sworn affidavits.
A traffic police spokesperson confirmed that FIRs will now be lodged against parents of underage drivers, in accordance with new government orders. He emphasized that unlicensed driving is a criminal offense and urged parents not to endanger their children’s future.
Meanwhile, the Punjab government is also moving to increase traffic violation fines by ten times to further discourage illegal driving practices.
