Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat has announced a major step toward strengthening the province’s public education system by ordering the appointment of headmasters in 35,000 government schools. The move comes after years of leadership gaps that have hindered school administration and affected educational standards.
In an official directive to the School Education Department, the minister stressed the urgency of filling these long-vacant positions. He also revealed that each appointed headmaster will receive an additional monthly allowance of Rs 10,000 as part of the initiative to incentivize and recognize their leadership roles.

Rana Sikandar Hayat highlighted that the absence of permanent headmasters has weakened administrative oversight and contributed to a decline in academic quality. He expressed confidence that the new appointments will bring much-needed stability and accountability to school operations.
The education minister has directed all relevant departments to fast-track the recruitment process, ensuring that schools benefit from effective leadership as soon as possible. The decision has been welcomed by educators and stakeholders who view it as a positive step toward revitalizing public education in Punjab.
