Authorities in Punjab have launched strict action against 10 stage dancers over allegations of performing inappropriate routines to uncensored and banned songs during theater productions.
The crackdown followed electronic monitoring carried out by the Punjab Council of the Arts, which reviewed various stage dramas and identified several performances that reportedly breached approved content guidelines and standard operating procedures (SOPs). Officials stated that some shows included songs that had not been cleared by relevant censors and were considered unsuitable for public performances.
As a result, formal show-cause notices were issued to the stage dancers, seeking written explanations for their conduct. The performers have been given a two-day deadline to respond and clarify their position regarding the alleged violations.
Those served notices include Saima Chaudhry, Afshan Khan, Iqra Khan, Hasna Jutt, Samar Malik, Masooma Malik, Jiya Chaudhry, Phool Chaudhry, Sana Malik, and Chahat Chaudhry. Authorities emphasized that each individual must submit a written reply within the stipulated time frame or face further action.
The Punjab Council of the Arts stated that the measures are part of ongoing efforts to enforce cultural standards and prevent the staging of content deemed unethical or outside the officially approved framework for theatrical productions. Officials added that maintaining discipline and adherence to regulations is essential to ensure that entertainment remains within acceptable boundaries.
In addition to issuing notices, the council has also contacted the district administration, urging it to take necessary steps to address the matter. Authorities reaffirmed their commitment to closely monitoring stage dancers and theatrical performances, warning that violations of SOPs will not be tolerated as part of their drive to promote responsible and regulated entertainment across Punjab’s theaters.
