Maryam Nawaz on Sunday formally launched Phase III of the CM Green Tractor Program, initiating the distribution of tractors through a computerized balloting process. She extended congratulations to the successful applicants and personally contacted several farmers to share the news. During one such call, she informed Hamza Liaquat from Bahawalpur that his name had been selected and that he would receive a tractor under the scheme.
Maryam Nawaz stated that the initiative is designed to boost Punjab’s agricultural sector and provide meaningful assistance to farmers throughout the province. She emphasized that farmer welfare and agricultural progress remain central priorities of her administration.
Provincial Agriculture Minister Syed Ashiq Hussain Kirmani briefed the chief minister on the program’s progress. He revealed that approximately 427,000 farmers owning up to five acres of land applied for Phase III. Over the past two years, the government has distributed 21,000 tractors, surpassing the 20,000 tractors provided during the previous 25 years.
So far, two phases of the initiative have been successfully completed, with 21,000 tractors delivered to farmers. In the third phase, authorities plan to distribute an additional 10,000 tractors ranging between 50 and 65 horsepower.
Officials further noted that Punjab currently has around 140 tractors per 10,000 acres of farmland, a comparatively low ratio when measured against several other countries. They also highlighted that rising tractor prices in recent years have made it increasingly challenging for small and medium-scale farmers to purchase machinery independently, reinforcing the importance of government support programs.
