The Punjab government has finalized its preparations for Ramazan, ensuring citizens have access to affordable food and essential items.
Under the plan, 100 Ramazan bazaars and 1,216 “Maryam tables” will be set up across 152 tehsils. These initiatives aim to provide subsidized groceries, essential food items, and other necessities at lower prices.
Ramazan Nigahban Package
The government has begun distributing cards under the Ramazan Nigahban package. Rs 47 billion has been allocated for this program. The cards allow citizens to purchase items at discounted rates at Ramazan bazaars and other sale points.
Subsidized Food and Discounts
Shoppers at Ramazan bazaars will benefit from various price reductions:
- 10 kg bag of flour available at Rs 850
- 20% discount on 20 essential items
- Chicken meat sold Rs 15 per kg below official rates
- Sugar capped at Rs 160 per kg
In addition, 120 dedicated sale points will focus on flour distribution. Over 105 large supermarket chains are required to display official sale rate counters to ensure transparency.
Monitoring and Quality Control
The Food Security and Commodities Management Department has instructed district commissioners to maintain price stability. The Para Force will oversee proper implementation of government rates.
The Punjab Food Authority will monitor the quality of food items at Maryam tables to protect consumers.
Ramazan Savings Festival
A three-day Ramazan Savings Festival will start tomorrow in Lahore at Jilani Park. The festival will offer citizens additional opportunities to purchase essential items at subsidized rates.
