Punjab Schools Adjust Timings Ahead of Predicted Heatwave

In response to an upcoming heatwave forecasted by the Pakistan Meteorological Department, the Punjab School Education Department has once again revised school timings across the province. A formal notification was issued on Friday, directing all public and private institutions to adopt the new schedule with immediate effect.

The change comes as temperatures are expected to surge from April 14 due to a high-pressure system forming in the upper atmosphere. The Met Office warns that the rising heat could escalate into a full-fledged heatwave, particularly affecting southern regions of the country.

Under the revised schedule, single-shift schools will now operate from 7:30am to 1:00pm from Monday to Thursday, while Friday’s closing time has been set at 11:30am. Teachers will begin their duties at 7:15am and remain at school until 1:30pm. These new timings override the previously announced summer schedule, which had only just taken effect on April 1.

The education department has emphasized the importance of compliance, urging schools to prioritize student safety. Parents are also being encouraged to take precautions, including keeping children well-hydrated and limiting sun exposure during peak hours.
