The Punjab Schools Education Department has introduced a major change by replacing traditional board exams with a new assessment test. This new testing method aims to improve students’ learning and academic performance.
Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat announced that the assessment test will focus on grades nine and ten. The test also aims to strengthen students’ foundational skills developed in earlier years.
The department has planned the eighth-grade assessment to be conducted by PECTA. The authority will provide detailed guidelines for the exam within the next 20 days.
Initially, this new assessment system will be implemented in government schools across Punjab. For private schools, the traditional board exams will become optional starting next academic session.
The next board exam session in Punjab for private schools is expected to take place in February or March next year.
This change is part of Punjab’s efforts to modernize its education system and enhance student learning outcomes. Officials believe that moving away from traditional exams will reduce pressure on students and encourage continuous learning.
The new assessment tests will focus more on understanding and practical knowledge instead of rote memorization. Punjab’s education department hopes this will help students develop better skills for future challenges.
Parents and teachers have welcomed this change, hoping it will create a more supportive learning environment. The department has assured schools and students of full support during the transition.
As Punjab leads this educational reform, other provinces may consider similar changes to improve the quality of education across the country.
