The Punjab government has decided to extend the ban on outdoor drone operations across the province for an additional 30 days, citing concerns over public safety and the current security environment. Officials stated that the restriction has been enforced under Section 144(6) of the Code of Criminal Procedure, 1898, and will remain effective for a month from the date of issuance unless authorities choose to lift it earlier.
This extension follows the expiry of the previous ban, which was initially imposed on February 25 and remained in place until March 25. Authorities reviewed the situation and concluded that continuing the restriction is necessary to maintain order and prevent potential risks associated with unauthorized drone activity.
According to the official notification, the ban specifically targets outdoor drone usage and does not apply to smaller drones operated indoors. Activities conducted within enclosed spaces such as halls or marquees are exempt, provided proper safety measures are observed. Event organizers have been made responsible for ensuring that drones used in such settings are handled securely and do not pose any danger to participants or property.
Additionally, the restriction does not apply to drones operated by intelligence agencies or law enforcement bodies, as these are considered essential for security and surveillance purposes. These entities will continue to use drones as needed for official operations without any limitations.
The Home Department emphasized that the decision has been taken to safeguard citizens and protect sensitive locations, including important buildings and installations, especially in light of the prevailing security challenges. Authorities have urged the public to comply with the directive and avoid unauthorized drone usage during the restricted period to ensure overall safety and stability across the province.
