Punjab Police to Get Body Cameras Soon

Punjab Police will gradually equip officers and traffic personnel with body cameras over the next two months, Inspector General of Police Abdul Kareem announced during a review of ongoing reform measures at the Central Police Office.

The IGP chaired a meeting focused on the “Fast, Fearless, Transparent Justice” initiative, highlighting steps to enhance accountability and strengthen public trust.

Authorities are also installing panic buttons outside police stations to allow citizens to report misconduct or denial of service immediately. Officers at police stations, checkpoints, offices, and Khidmat Marakaz have been directed to address the public respectfully using terms like “sir,” “madam,” “sahib,” or “sahiba.”

Counseling and training sessions will be arranged to improve professional behavior, and strict action will be taken against officers involved in corruption, abuse of power, or misconduct.

The IGP ordered all CCTV cameras at police stations to remain operational with proper backup systems. A modern control and monitoring room at the Central Police Office will oversee police operations, enabling officials to monitor stations, SHOs, moharrirs, and investigation rooms directly through the Safe Cities system.
