During a visit to District Jail Faisalabad on Wednesday, the Home Secretary inspected the visitor’s room, kitchen, hospital, and both male and female barracks. He evaluated the quality of food provided to prisoners and instructed the food authorities to conduct surprise monthly inspections.

Mengal directed that prisoner visitor rooms be upgraded to international standards, including air conditioning during the summer. The Infrastructure Development Authority should design these rooms to ensure visitors receive all necessary facilities.

Additionally, he called for health screenings of inmates in all provincial prisons and training for prison staff on food preparation and hygiene, to be conducted by private consultants.

The Home Secretary also mandated the use of food-grade utensils in prison kitchens according to hygiene rules.
