Following new flood-related information shared by India, Punjab has issued a high-level flood alert, while the Pakistan Army has been deployed in Jalalpur Peer Wala as the situation worsens.
According to PDMA Punjab, the Indian High Commission warned of rising water levels in the Sutlej River, leading to high floods in Harike and Ferozepur. Authorities have been directed to take urgent measures to safeguard lives and property. Currently, the Sutlej at Ganda Singh Wala is facing an extreme-level flood with a flow of 311,000 cusecs, while other points on the Sutlej, Chenab, and Ravi rivers also report high to extreme levels of flooding.
Relief Commissioner Nabeel Javed cautioned that extreme floods may persist in the Ravi, Sutlej, and Chenab rivers until September 9 due to rainfall in upper regions. Rescue operations are underway, with 27 boats, including Army, Rescue 1122, and police vessels, actively evacuating people. Reports confirm several villages submerged after an embankment broke, leaving families trapped and calling for urgent help.
DG PDMA Irfan Ali Kathia said heavy rains have put Gujrat under emergency, while the 10th monsoon spell continues across Punjab. Rescue teams have conducted over 25,000 operations, relocating millions and providing shelter, food, and medical services in relief camps. Despite ongoing efforts, 56 fatalities have been reported, and over 4 million people remain affected by the floods.
