In a landmark move aimed at supporting the agricultural community, the Punjab government has lifted all restrictions on the movement of wheat within and outside the province. Farmers can now transport wheat across inter-provincial borders without requiring special permits, allowing them to access broader markets and better prices.
The directive is part of a wider deregulation policy approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, introducing a free market mechanism for wheat procurement. This marks the first time in Punjab’s history that the private sector will be allowed to participate in the procurement process, ending the longstanding monopoly of government agencies.

The move has been widely welcomed by farmer associations, traders, and market analysts who view it as a positive step toward modernizing Pakistan’s grain economy.
