Punjab is launching a new nutrition program for students in government schools. Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz is leading the initiative under the School Nutrition Programme.
A special session was held to finalize the company that will supply milk and biscuits. The program aims to improve child nutrition and overall health in Punjab.
This pilot project will begin in eight districts: Bhakkar, Bahawalnagar, Dera Ghazi Khan, Layyah, Rajanpur, Mianwali, Muzaffargarh, and Rahim Yar Khan.
More than 400,000 students across 3,527 schools in Punjab will benefit from this initiative. These students have been identified as undernourished and in need of daily nutritional support.
Each child will receive a serving of milk along with biscuits every school day. Officials believe this will help reduce malnutrition and support better focus and academic performance.
The program also includes a recycling component. Used milk packs will be collected from schools and sent for recycling. The money earned from recycling will be used to improve school facilities.
Punjab’s government has shown strong commitment to improving student health. Maryam Nawaz stressed the importance of proper nutrition in the physical and mental development of children.
If the pilot is successful, the Punjab government plans to expand the program to more districts in the future.
The School Nutrition Programme is part of broader efforts to raise education standards and support student well-being across Punjab. The focus is not only on learning but also on creating a healthy environment for young learners.
This step reflects Punjab’s commitment to investing in the future of its children by addressing basic health needs within the school system. The government hopes this initiative will bring long-term positive change to education and child welfare in the province.
