Punjab Launches Free Land Scheme for Farmers

Maryam Nawaz has announced that free state-owned agricultural land will be allocated to peasants starting in April under the “Apna Khet, Apna Rozgar” program, a move aimed at boosting Punjab’s farming sector. She stated that all cultivable government land across the province will be leased to eligible farmers for a period of 10 years without any rental charges. Each beneficiary will be allotted up to five acres at no cost, ensuring small and landless farmers gain access to farmland.

The chief minister further shared that, in addition to land distribution, financial assistance will also be provided so farmers can begin cultivation immediately. The initiative is designed to enhance crop production, empower rural communities, and strengthen the province’s agricultural economy. She originally unveiled the scheme on February 4 during the inauguration of an electric bus service in Rajanpur, announcing that nearly 250,000 acres would be distributed among deserving and underprivileged individuals. Detailed procedures and application guidelines are expected soon.

Separately, while addressing the launch ceremony of the CM Green Tractor Programme Phase-III, Maryam Nawaz initiated the computerized balloting process and congratulated successful applicants. She highlighted that although 20,000 tractors were distributed over the past 25 years, her administration has delivered 31,000 tractors within just two years, setting a new benchmark. During the ceremony, she personally informed selected farmers, including one from Bahawalpur, about their success in the draw.

She emphasized that modern machinery and farmer-focused initiatives are transforming Punjab’s agricultural landscape and reaffirmed her government’s commitment to pro-farmer policies and sustained agricultural growth.
