In a move to preserve religious harmony during Muharram, the Punjab Home Department has established the province’s first Cyber Patrol and Quick Response Cell to monitor digital spaces in real time and respond swiftly to online provocations.
Operating under the Home Department’s oversight, the new cell is responsible for detecting and reporting sectarian and inflammatory content circulating on social media. The initiative aims to prevent the spread of hate speech, fake news, and religious incitement during the sensitive month.

According to an official statement issued on Monday, the cell is actively scanning digital platforms for misleading or provocative content. Any flagged material will be sent to the Special Branch for verification and appropriate follow-up.
The Home Department also confirmed coordination with the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) and the Federal Ministry of Interior to ensure the prompt removal of harmful content and legal action against those responsible. The Special Branch will lead efforts to trace and pursue individuals behind inflammatory posts.
