The Punjab Home Department has issued strict directives to enforce a complete ban on kite flying and kite manufacturing across the province. The move comes amid growing safety concerns linked to kite-related incidents, particularly those involving deadly metal and chemical strings that have caused numerous injuries and fatalities in past years.
According to the department, the ban on kite flying and kite making remains fully in force throughout Punjab. Any individual found flying kites in violation of the law may face severe punishment, including imprisonment of up to five years along with a fine of up to Rs2 million.
The Home Department has also warned that those involved in the manufacturing, sale, storage, or transportation of kites and kite strings will face even harsher penalties. Such offenders could be sentenced to up to seven years in prison and fined as much as Rs5 million under existing laws.
However, authorities clarified that limited permission for Basant celebrations has been granted exclusively in Lahore for February 6, 7, and 8. Kite flying outside these approved dates, locations, or timings will be treated as a criminal offense and dealt with accordingly.
Officials stressed that illegal kite flying and manufacturing pose a serious threat to public safety, particularly to pedestrians, motorcyclists, and children. Past incidents involving sharp kite strings have resulted in fatal injuries, prompting authorities to adopt a zero-tolerance policy.
Law enforcement agencies across Punjab have been directed to ensure strict implementation of the ban. Police and district administrations have been instructed to take immediate action against violators, conduct raids where necessary, and prevent any illegal kite-related activities before the permitted Basant schedule.
