The Punjab government has amended the Motor Vehicles Ordinance 1965 to allow vehicles registered in other provinces to be re-registered in Punjab. The initiative is set to begin next month, with the necessary rules, SOPs, and registration modules nearly finalized.
According to excise officials, vehicle owners from Sindh, Islamabad, and other regions will be able to re-register their vehicles in Punjab after obtaining a No-Objection Certificate (NOC) from their respective provincial Motor Registration Authorities. The re-registration fee will be considerably lower than that for new registrations, making the process more affordable.

Additionally, Punjab will accept token taxes already paid in Sindh and Islamabad, thus eliminating the need for double taxation. Officials also mentioned that an e-Pay system will be introduced in the next phase to facilitate digital transactions for re-registration.
Punjab Excise and Taxation Director General Umar Sher Chattha emphasized that this measure will simplify the registration process for citizens while boosting the province’s revenue. However, while some vehicle owners and car dealers welcome the change as a convenient option, others remain concerned about potential procedural challenges.
