The Punjab Government has approved a free service to transport deceased persons from hospitals to their homes. The initiative was formally approved by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz during a special meeting.
The service will operate at major public hospitals and in every tehsil across Punjab. The province has 216 tehsils, and at least one government-run van will be provided in each tehsil. This ensures families can access the service locally without paying any charges.
Bereaved families will be able to use the service by calling 1122 or through designated hospital counters. The Punjab Government has also announced that intercity transportation of deceased persons, from one hospital to another city, will be provided free of cost.
Officials said the service will be monitored through a smart management system. This system will ensure transparency, timely response, and efficient operations. Authorities aim to track each vehicle and service request to maintain high standards.
During the meeting, Secretary of Emergency Services Dr Rizwan Naseer briefed officials on operational modalities. He explained the procedures for deploying vehicles, staffing, and coordinating with hospitals to ensure smooth service delivery.
The meeting also discussed regulating private ambulance services. The Punjab Government plans to fix rates and prevent overcharging. This aims to standardize ambulance services across the province and ensure affordability for citizens.
Officials described the initiative as a major step to support families during difficult times. They said the service reflects the Punjab Government’s commitment to social welfare and public service. Families will now have a reliable, free option to transport their deceased loved ones safely and respectfully.
