In a significant effort to revitalize the local film industry, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz has approved a Rs. 2 billion grant to support filmmakers and directors across the province.
The initiative aims to encourage the production of high-quality and widely appealing films, breathing new life into Pakistan’s cinematic landscape. Only filmmakers and directors who have produced at least one film in the past five years will be eligible to apply.

Film Funds Distribution Committee Established
To ensure transparent and equitable distribution of the funds, CM Maryam Nawaz has established a Film Funds Distribution Committee, chaired by Senior Minister Marriyum Aurangzeb. Other members include:
- Minister for Information and Culture Azma Bukhari
- Minister for Finance Mujtaba Shuja-ur-Rehman
- Secretary of Information
- Secretary of Planning & Development
- Secretary of Finance
This committee will be responsible for reviewing applications and ensuring that the Rs. 2 billion fund is allocated to deserving individuals and projects.
Emphasis on Quality and Popularity
According to official guidelines, filmmakers who have previously produced successful or popular films will be given priority. Applicants must submit details of their film’s script and cast to ensure that only professionally developed projects receive financial assistance.
This move marks a major step toward strengthening the cultural and creative economy in Punjab.
