Punjab Govt Releases Rs3.59 Billion to Address Medicine Shortage in Hospitals
LAHORE – Amid a severe shortage of medicines in government hospitals across Punjab, the Finance Department has released Rs3.59 billion to tackle the crisis and ensure the supply of essential drugs to patients.
Funds Allocated to 30 Government Hospitals
The Punjab Finance Department issued an official notification to the Health Secretary, confirming the release of funds that had previously been stuck in the budget. A Health Department spokesperson assured that the financial assistance will be used to replenish medicine stocks efficiently.

Several major hospitals have received substantial financial support, including:
- King Edward Medical University – Rs30 million
- General Hospital – Rs125 million
- Jinnah Hospital – Rs270 million
- Gangaram Hospital – Rs240 million
- Services Hospital – More than Rs250 million
- Faisalabad Cardiology Hospital – Rs260 million
- Gujranwala Medical College – Rs110 million
- Punjab Institute of Neurosciences – Rs210 million
- DHQ Hospital Sargodha – More than Rs110 million
- DG Khan Cardiology – Rs200 million
- Multan Cardiology – More than Rs180 million
Government’s Commitment to Healthcare
The shortage of medicines had placed immense pressure on public hospitals, severely affecting patient care. Health officials have assured that the allocated funds will be utilized efficiently to meet rising healthcare demands in Punjab’s medical facilities.
This funding boost comes in response to growing concerns over the persistent medicine shortage, despite CM Maryam Nawaz’s surprise visit to Mayo Hospital earlier this month.
