Punjab Expands Water and Sanitation Services to 10 More Cities

In a significant step to enhance clean water supply and modern sewerage systems, the Punjab Housing Department has approved the creation of 10 new Water and Sanitation Agencies (WASAs) across the province.

The newly included cities are:

  • Hafizabad
  • Jhang
  • Sialkot
  • Jhelum
  • Rahim Yar Khan
  • Sahiwal
  • Okara
  • Bahawalpur
  • Sargodha
  • Dera Ghazi Khan

Authorities have been directed to appoint managing directors for these agencies to ensure smooth operations.

High-Level Review Meeting

The decision was announced during an emergency visit by Punjab Housing Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal to the WASA headquarters in Faisalabad. He chaired a high-level meeting attended by:

  • FDA Director General Muhammad Asif Chaudhry
  • WASA Managing Director Aamir Aziz
  • DG PHA Dilawar Khan
  • Other senior officials

The meeting reviewed ongoing development projects, sewerage upgrades, and clean water supply initiatives.

Rs. 150 Billion Projects Underway

Mengal highlighted the Punjab Chief Minister’s commitment to providing clean drinking water and modern sanitation facilities to the public. He revealed that Rs. 150 billion worth of projects are currently being executed under WASA’s supervision, with strict monitoring to ensure quality and timely completion.

Ensuring Transparency & Efficiency

To maintain high standards:

  • Quality Assurance Committees will be formed.
  • Special monitoring cells will oversee technical aspects of projects.
  • Public convenience will be prioritized, avoiding unnecessary disruptions.

Mengal warned against delays, negligence, or corruption, stating that strict action will be taken against any officials failing to meet project deadlines or quality benchmarks.
