Punjab Ends Free Health Card Treatment in Public Hospitals from July 1

The Punjab Health Initiative Management Committee has officially terminated free treatment services under the health card programme across all public hospitals in the province, including those in Rawalpindi, effective July 1, 2025. A formal notification has been circulated to all relevant health authorities.

According to the directive, medical superintendents, district health officers, and heads of district health authorities have been instructed not to accept any documents related to the health card scheme from the beginning of the new fiscal year. The move marks a significant rollback in one of Punjab’s most widely accessed public health initiatives.

Additionally, the insurance company administering the programme will also stop processing any claims or hospital documents for free treatment under the scheme. All ongoing treatments under the health card have been deemed terminated with immediate effect.

In Rawalpindi and other parts of the province, government hospitals have begun discharging patients previously admitted under the programme. Those awaiting critical procedures such as surgeries, dialysis, or cardiac stent placements have been asked to make private financial arrangements going forward.
