Japanese waste management practices are set to reshape Punjab as Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz pledged to introduce advanced treatment systems in Pakistan. During her visit to Japan, the CM announced plans to adopt modern Japanese technology for sewage and waste management in the province.
While touring Japan’s largest wastewater treatment facility in Yokohama, she reviewed systems for efficient garbage collection, wastewater processing, and energy recovery. Officials highlighted that Yokohama, the country’s second-largest city, treats 1.5 million litres of wastewater daily under strict environmental standards.
“Punjab will implement these advanced systems to improve sanitation and environmental management,” she affirmed. The CM also attended a briefing at Yokohama’s Town Hall on urban development, focusing on road and building improvements in Punjab. Agreements were reached for city-to-city cooperation between Yokohama and Punjab across various sectors.
