Winter Holiday in Punjab Extended Here’s the Update

Reports suggesting that the Punjab government is considering an extension of the Winter Holiday for schools and colleges have caused confusion across the province. The speculation surfaced amid cold weather conditions affecting several areas.

The provincial government has clarified that no decision has been made to extend the Winter Holiday. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat confirmed that all public and private schools and colleges will reopen as scheduled on January 12, 2026. He urged parents and students to rely only on official announcements.

Speculation about a holiday extension began circulating on social media and messaging platforms. The reports claimed that authorities were reviewing the school schedule due to harsh weather. This led many parents and students to seek clarification from government officials.

The confusion coincided with warnings issued by the National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA). Citizens were advised to remain cautious during the severe cold spell. Parents became especially concerned about early-morning school timings and the safety of students during winter weather.

Official Winter Holiday schedule

The Punjab Education Department had previously announced the Winter Holiday from December 22, 2025, to January 10, 2026, for all public and private educational institutions. Despite the official notice, some private schools reportedly asked students to resume classes early, starting January 6.

Action against schools violating rules

The District Education Authority (DEA) in Lahore has taken strict measures against private schools that reopened before the official end of the Winter Holiday. Three schools in Shahdara, Bedian Road, and Sabzazar were sealed for violating government directives. The principals of these schools have been summoned for questioning.

The DEA warned that strict action would continue against any private school found defying the officially announced Winter Holiday schedule. Punjab Education Minister Rana Sikandar Hayat reiterated that no school is allowed to open before the end of winter vacations. He confirmed that the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Education will take immediate action against any violators.
