Punjab Information Minister Uzma Bukhari announced that the provincial government is constructing 290 houses every day under the “Apni Chhat Apna Ghar” project, marking a major stride toward accessible housing for low and middle-income families.
Speaking at a press briefing in Lahore, Bukhari stated that the initiative, launched under the leadership of Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif, reflects the government’s commitment to ensure that every citizen has a roof over their head. She emphasized that the pace of construction demonstrates the seriousness and efficiency with which the housing program is being implemented across Punjab.
The minister highlighted that the project is designed not only to address the housing shortage but also to generate employment opportunities within the construction sector. “This initiative fulfills the vision of social welfare by empowering thousands of families with their own homes while creating jobs across Punjab,” she said.
According to officials, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar scheme uses modern and cost-effective construction techniques to ensure quality while maintaining affordability. The provincial housing department is coordinating with local development authorities and private contractors to speed up work in both urban and rural areas.
Bukhari further added that transparency and merit remain central to the scheme, ensuring that deserving families benefit first. She also mentioned that regular monitoring is being conducted to maintain high standards and to deliver homes on schedule.
The government plans to expand the project further in the coming months, providing additional housing units in underdeveloped districts. The initiative is part of Punjab’s broader social reform agenda, which focuses on public welfare, urban development, and community uplift.
This project complements other welfare measures introduced by the provincial administration, such as the recent new electricity duty on industrial users, aimed at ensuring sustainable energy management while balancing development goals.
By delivering homes at an unprecedented pace, the Apni Chhat Apna Ghar project has emerged as one of Punjab’s most ambitious housing drives, symbolizing a tangible step toward a more equitable and prosperous province.
