Punjab Attendance Rule Scrapped?

Punjab’s public debate over student attendance intensified after a notification circulating on social media claimed that attendance requirements had been abolished across colleges and universities.

The viral document, dated January 17, 2026, alleged that both public and private institutions were directed not to block admissions or exams over low attendance.

It further claimed that colleges and universities were barred from imposing fines or penalties linked to attendance shortages, warning of strict action for violations.

The notification, attributed to a Section Officer named Babar Khan Gondal, quickly gained traction online, causing confusion among students and faculty members.

In response, the Higher Education Commission of Pakistan issued a clear warning, stating that the circulating notification is fake and misleading.

HEC urged students, parents, and institutions to remain cautious, stressing that official policies are only shared through verified government channels.

The commission advised everyone to avoid spreading unverified documents and to rely solely on official websites and authenticated social media accounts for updates.

HEC emphasized that attendance policies for higher education institutions remain unchanged unless formally announced through proper notifications.

Officials warned that fake notices can create unnecessary panic and disrupt academic operations across Punjab’s education sector.

The clarification aims to reassure institutions that no changes have been made to attendance rules at this stage.

Authorities also reminded the public that sharing false information can have legal consequences under existing cyber and misinformation laws.

Students were encouraged to confirm any major academic policy changes directly with their institutions or regulatory bodies before acting.
