A resolution has been tabled in the Punjab Assembly seeking a complete ban on TikTok’s live chat feature in Pakistan. The motion, moved by opposition member Farukh Javed, calls on the federal government to act immediately.
The resolution argues that TikTok live sessions are promoting obscenity and indecency, with a strong impact on children and youth. It highlights that many young users engage in inappropriate conversations and encourage each other toward immoral behaviour, which contradicts Islamic and social values.
It further states that the lure of quick fame and financial rewards is pushing young people toward platforms like TikTok, leading to moral and social decline. To safeguard the new generation from ethical corruption, the resolution demands a federal-level ban on TikTok’s live chat feature.
TikTok has previously faced temporary restrictions in Pakistan due to concerns over explicit material and its harmful effects on users’ mental health and social conduct.
