The Punjab government has approved a massive Rs 47 billion Ramadan Nigehban Package to support deserving families during the holy month. The decision was finalized in a high-level meeting chaired by Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz, which reviewed Ramadan arrangements and broader public relief initiatives across the province.
Under the package, the provincial government will provide direct cash assistance of Rs 10,000 to around 4.2 million low-income families. The initiative aims to help households manage rising expenses during Ramadan and ensure access to basic necessities with dignity and ease.
To facilitate transparent distribution, authorities will issue more than two million Ramadan Nigehban Cards to eligible beneficiaries. These cards will allow families to receive cash assistance and purchase essential commodities without delays or middlemen involvement.
Officials said beneficiaries will be able to withdraw cash through Bank of Punjab branchless banking agents and ATMs connected to the One-Link network. This system is intended to reduce overcrowding and provide convenient access across urban and rural areas.
The government will also establish 136 card activation centers throughout Punjab to support beneficiaries. In addition, a dedicated Ramadan Nigehban Dashboard will be launched to monitor, verify, and track the distribution process in real time.
According to officials, ration card holders will now receive Rs 10,000 during Ramadan, an increase from the current Rs 3,000 monthly assistance. The Punjab government says the package reflects its commitment to public welfare and targeted relief during Ramadan.
