Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz inaugurated Lahore’s first electric bus transport system, introducing an affordable and eco-friendly commuting option. She emphasized that this initiative aligns with her vision for a “Green Punjab,” confirming the arrival of 27 electric buses and setting a minimal fare of Rs. 20 to enhance accessibility for the public.
The service will provide free travel for students, senior citizens, and differently-abled individuals through an electric bus card. Additionally, passengers will benefit from onboard amenities, including free internet and charging facilities, improving convenience for daily commuters.

Maryam Nawaz also announced plans to introduce 500 more electric buses by August and expand the Metrobus service to Faisalabad and Gujranwala in the next financial year. As part of the transport modernization initiative, the government also aims to distribute 100,000 electric bikes to students.
Meanwhile, in Peshawar, the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) service is set to expand with 72 new hybrid diesel buses to accommodate growing demand. Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) Chief Minister Ali Amin Khan Gandapur has set a six-month deadline for infrastructure upgrades and new routes, including Ring Road, Bara Road, and Khyber Road. The ongoing construction of the Mall of Hayatabad and Dubgari Plaza is also expected to be completed by April.
