A public holiday has been declared across Nankana Sahib district on November 15 to commemorate the 555th birth anniversary of Baba Guru Nanak, the founder of Sikhism. Deputy Commissioner Taslim Akhtar Rao announced the holiday in a notification, as the district prepares for a four-day celebration from November 13 to 16. Thousands of Sikh pilgrims from Pakistan and around the world are expected to gather in Nankana Sahib, Guru Nanak’s birthplace, for the festivities.

In preparation, the Nankana Sahib district administration has coordinated with relevant authorities to ensure the safety and comfort of all attendees, especially international visitors. Last week, Punjab’s Minister for Minority Affairs, Sardar Ramesh Singh Arora, along with Home Secretary Noorul Amin Mengal, visited Nankana Sahib to inspect security arrangements for the event. They reviewed entry and exit points of the city and issued directives to enhance security measures. Deputy Commissioner Taslim Akhtar Rao and District Police Officer Syed Nadeem Abbas briefed the officials on the security plans from the control room.
Minister Arora shared that over 60,000 Sikh pilgrims are anticipated to visit Nankana Sahib between November 13 and 16. After the celebrations, pilgrims will continue their journey to other significant religious sites, including Farooqabad, Sheikhupura, Hassan Abdal, Kartarpur, Eimanabad, and Lahore.
