PTV to Remove Employees with Fake Degrees

Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has announced that employees with fake degrees will be removed from Pakistan Television (PTV).

During a meeting of the National Assembly’s Standing Committee on Information, he revealed that the process of verifying employee degrees will be completed by January 31. The minister emphasized that even if it results in the dismissal of 200 employees with fake degrees, the action will be taken. He also criticized the previous management for its “never go home” policy, which rehired retired employees on high salaries, and mentioned that 12 individuals hired under this policy had already been dismissed.

The meeting also touched upon proposed changes to the Pakistan Electronic Media Regulatory Authority (PEMRA). Committee member Asiya Naz Tanoli suggested the creation of a board to oversee content on entertainment channels, particularly dramas and advertisements that may be unsuitable for family viewing. The PEMRA chairman indicated that discussions with channel representatives have begun and recommended forming a sub-committee to further consult and develop a collective strategy.

The committee also reviewed measures to improve transparency and enhance the quality of media content in both PTV and PEMRA operations.
