PTI’s Raja Shahbaz Bhatti Sent on 8-Day Physical Remand

An Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) in Rawalpindi has sent Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) youth leader Raja Shahbaz Bhatti on an eight-day physical remand. The decision was made on Thursday after the police presented him before the court in connection with an ongoing investigation.

ATC Judge Amjad Ali Shah presided over the hearing. During the proceedings, the police sought Bhatti’s physical remand to further probe his alleged involvement in activities that fall under terrorism-related charges. After reviewing the case details, the court approved an eight-day remand, allowing the police additional time for investigation.

Raja Shahbaz Bhatti, who serves as the President of the Insaf Youth Wing in Punjab, was taken into custody earlier this week. His arrest is part of a broader investigation into political unrest incidents linked to protests and demonstrations associated with PTI.

According to legal experts, an ATC remand allows authorities to interrogate the suspect in custody while collecting further evidence. However, they emphasized that the police must ensure Bhatti’s legal rights are protected during the investigation process.

The PTI leadership, meanwhile, has expressed strong concern over Bhatti’s detention, terming it part of what they describe as ongoing “political victimization.” Party representatives have demanded his immediate release, claiming the charges are politically motivated.

Midway through the week, tensions also surfaced in another major political development when Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohaib Afridi held a protest after being denied a visit to Adiala Jail to meet PTI founder Imran Khan. The incident highlighted the rising friction between PTI leaders and law enforcement agencies.

The legal team representing Raja Shahbaz Bhatti has announced plans to file a petition for bail once the remand period ends. They argue that no solid evidence has been presented to justify the continued detention.

Observers note that the case reflects growing political tension as the government continues to tighten its stance on PTI-affiliated leaders. The outcome of Bhatti’s interrogation could influence future legal actions against other party members facing similar allegations.

As of now, Raja Shahbaz Bhatti remains in police custody. His next court appearance is expected after the completion of the eight-day physical remand.
