The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) founder has proposed Mahmood Khan Achakzai as the opposition leader in the National Assembly. This suggestion was shared during a recent meeting with Advocate Ali Bukhari, according to party sources. The PTI founder believes Achakzai is a strong candidate given the current political environment.
The final decision, however, will be made by the PTI’s political committee after reviewing all nominations. The party is expected to carefully consider various names before confirming the opposition leader.
For the Senate, the PTI founder recommended reviewing the names of Azam Swati and Ali Zafar. Sources said that Swati’s seniority and experience make him a likely choice for the role.
Regarding the position of Punjab’s opposition leader, the PTI founder asked the party to propose six to seven potential candidates. These names will be reviewed by the political committee before a final decision is made.
The PTI founder also deferred the decision on whether the party will contest upcoming by-elections to the political committee. Party sources confirmed that all key decisions will be presented to the committee for mutual consultation and approval.
Meanwhile, the Peshawar High Court has issued a stay order that prevents the removal of current opposition leaders in both the National Assembly and Senate. This legal move adds an extra layer of complexity to the leadership discussions within PTI.
The PTI continues to play a central role in Pakistan’s political landscape. The party’s leadership decisions will significantly impact its future direction and influence in parliament. Party members and supporters are closely watching how these developments unfold.
