The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) has resolved to take part in the Judicial Commission of Pakistan, responsible for appointing judges to Pakistan’s superior courts. The decision was reached unanimously in a special meeting of PTI’s political committee, which approved the nomination of two party members from both Houses of Parliament to join the 13-member commission. This action follows a letter from the National Assembly speaker requesting PTI’s nominations.

According to a statement from the meeting, PTI’s core committee and party founder Imran Khan will give final approval to the selected nominees before an official announcement is made. The committee was briefed on the speaker’s letter and the expanded responsibilities of the judicial commission, which now includes overseeing high court judges’ performance, preparing performance reports, and recommending high court candidates. Additionally, the commission has the authority to establish benches within the high courts and Supreme Court, with decisions being made by a simple majority vote among its members.
The PTI committee emphasized the importance of the two opposition seats on the commission and reaffirmed its stance on the 26th constitutional amendment. After the core committee and Imran Khan’s approval, the finalized nominations will be formally announced.
