The Sindh government has granted Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) permission to organize a large political gathering in Karachi, subject to stringent terms and conditions. Sindh Senior Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon stated that the Deputy Commissioner of Karachi East formally issued the permit, allowing the party to carry out lawful political activities while placing strict obligations on the event organizers.
According to the conditions, PTI must ensure the maintenance of law and order throughout the rally, refrain from using provocative language, sectarian remarks, or any statements against state institutions, and ensure proper traffic management. The authorities have also directed that the event must conclude within the approved timeframe. The district administration has reserved the right to cancel the permit immediately if any security concerns arise.
Meanwhile, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Chief Minister Sohail Afridi arrived in Karachi to lead PTI workers as part of the party’s nationwide street movement. During his three-day stay, Afridi held discussions with journalists at the Karachi Press Club, visited Insaf House, and finalized plans for public meetings in the South and Malir districts. He expressed appreciation for the warm welcome received in Karachi, remarking that it surpassed the response seen in Lahore, and acknowledged the democratic contributions of Zulfiqar Ali Bhutto and Benazir Bhutto.
Afridi said the primary objective of his visit was to reinvigorate PTI’s street campaign and voiced strong criticism over the incarceration of former prime minister Imran Khan. He also emphasized that sustainable peace in Sindh could only be achieved through inclusive consultation with local representatives and tribal elders, rather than relying solely on military-led operations.
Afridi’s arrival attracted large crowds of supporters, although PTI alleged that police dismantled tents arranged for his reception. He clarified that the party’s office remained operational despite these actions. He further announced a major rally at Mazar-i-Quaid scheduled for Sunday, which PTI claims could be among the largest political gatherings in Karachi’s history.
During the visit, Afridi is also set to meet senior party officials, members of the business community, lawyers, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah, and travel to Hyderabad to engage supporters and address regional issues. His earlier tour of Punjab had encountered hurdles, highlighting the mounting tensions linked to PTI’s countrywide mobilization campaign.
