The Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) secured six out of 11 Senate seats from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (K-P) in Monday’s elections, held under a seat-sharing agreement between the ruling party and opposition.

As per unofficial results, PTI clinched six seats, while the opposition alliance — comprising PPP, PML-N, and JUI-F — took five. The polling took place at the K-P Assembly’s Jirga Hall, with all 145 members casting their votes from 11 am to 5:30 pm.

Among PTI’s winners on general seats were Murad Saeed (26 votes), Faisal Javed (22), Allama Noorul Haq Qadri (21), and Mirza Afridi (21). On the opposition side, PML-N’s Niaz Ahmed (19), JUI-F’s Attaul Haq Darwaish (18), and PPP’s Talha Mahmood (17) also won general seats.

For the reserved women’s seats, PTI’s Rubina Naz secured 89 votes, while PPP’s Rubina Khalid received 52. On technocrat seats, PTI’s Azam Swati won with 89 votes, and JUI-F’s Dilawar Khan earned 54.

The vote distribution followed a mutual power-sharing formula, designed to prevent political conflict and discourage horse-trading. Despite internal disagreements, PTI’s leadership successfully rallied behind its top candidates. The opposition coordinated its campaign through a unified strategy, meeting its goal.

Opposition Leader Dr. Ibad expressed gratitude to allied parties and praised the cooperative spirit of the election. JUI-F’s Maulana Attaul Haq pledged to focus on peace and employment initiatives during his Senate tenure.

Out of 25 total candidates for seven general, two technocrat, and two women’s seats, several withdrew before polling began.

Punjab Senate By-election:

In Punjab, PML-N candidate Hafiz Abdul Karim won the Senate by-election, securing 242 votes in the provincial assembly. Voting took place from 9 am to 4 pm, with 345 out of 368 members casting ballots. Three votes were rejected.

The election, supervised by Provincial Election Commissioner Sharifullah, saw Abdul Karim defeat opposition candidate Mehr Abdul Sattar, who received 99 votes.

Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz participated in the vote, with PML-N’s Rana Arshad and the opposition’s Rana Shehbaz serving as polling agents. Final results will be confirmed by the Election Commission of Pakistan in Islamabad.
