PTA issues warning over sharing unlawful online content

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has cautioned the public against sharing or promoting illegal content on social media.

In an official statement, the PTA reminded users that while freedom of speech is protected, it must not be misused to post unlawful material or participate in prohibited online activities.

It emphasized that sharing blasphemous content, disrespecting religions, prophets, or sacred figures, inciting violence, spreading hatred or misinformation against state institutions, or circulating obscene or fake content violates the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016 and is punishable by law.

PTA also urged users to report such material via the PTA CMS app, encouraging the public to stay alert and protect national harmony.

Separately, PTA warned users about fake courier scams. Fraudsters, posing as delivery agents, are sending messages with false verification codes to steal personal data. These messages often contain suspicious links or requests for private information.

PTA clarified these are scams with no link to any legitimate courier company and advised users never to share verification codes or respond to suspicious messages or calls.
