The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority has rejected reports claiming nationwide internet disruption or slowdown across Pakistan on January 15, calling them misleading.
PTA officials said there is no truth to claims circulating on social media suggesting countrywide connectivity issues on the specified date.
The authority confirmed that internet services across Pakistan are currently stable, with no interruptions or abnormal performance reported nationwide so far.
According to PTA, major upstream service providers, including Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited and Transworld, are operating normally without network degradation.
The clarification follows public concern after internet service provider Nayatel informed customers about planned submarine cable maintenance on January 15.
Nayatel’s email stated maintenance could last up to eight hours and might cause temporary slowness, without naming the affected cable.
PTA officials emphasized that routine submarine cable maintenance is standard practice and does not usually impact nationwide internet performance.
They said Pakistan’s internet traffic is supported by multiple international cables, reducing the risk of widespread service disruption.
Officials further assured that no large-scale slowdown or outage is expected during the scheduled maintenance activity.
The authority said it remains in close coordination with service providers to monitor network stability and respond promptly if issues arise.
PTA urged the public not to rely on unverified social media reports that can cause unnecessary concern among internet users.
Consumers were advised to follow updates only from official sources for accurate information regarding telecom services.
The regulator reiterated its commitment to ensuring uninterrupted internet connectivity across Pakistan for businesses, students, and general users.
PTA said it will continue monitoring the situation and inform the public if any service-related developments occur.
