The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has confirmed that the recent issues causing internet slowness across the country have been fully resolved. A spokesperson announced that internet services are now operating at full speed and capacity following repairs to the SMW-4 submarine cable, which had experienced faults since June. Additionally, issues with the AAE1 cable in August contributed to a significant shortfall of 1,750 Gbps in internet capacity.
With the completion of these repairs, the PTA assures users that internet connectivity is stable. To bolster the country’s internet infrastructure, the PTA also unveiled plans to introduce three new cables over the next two years—two from Transworld International and one from the PTCL cable system. Furthermore, the integration of the Pace Cable into the network in 2023 is expected to enhance overall internet capacity.
