PTA Cracks Down On Unauthorized SIM Issuance In Lahore

In a collaborative effort, the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) Zonal Office Lahore joined forces with the Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) Cyber Crime Circle to carry out a successful raid against a mobile phone company franchisee in Lahore. The franchisee was identified to be engaged in the illicit issuance of SIM cards.

The operation resulted in the confiscation of 13 Biometric Verification System (BVS) devices and a laptop, all of which were seized as crucial pieces of evidence. Additionally, during the raid, the FIA team apprehended an individual on the premises. Presently, the FIA is actively conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

Prior to the raid, the PTA had lodged a complaint with the FIA, prompted by information revealing the unauthorized issuance of SIM cards through the sales channel affiliated with the franchisee.

This raid exemplifies the continuous and concerted efforts by the PTA to combat the persistent issue of the illegal issuance of SIM cards. Such actions are essential for ensuring the integrity and security of telecommunication services in the country. By actively collaborating with law enforcement agencies like the FIA, the PTA is taking proactive measures to curb illegal activities in the telecom sector, thereby safeguarding the interests of both consumers and service providers.
