PTA Approves Wi-Fi 7 Deployment In Pakistan Using 6 GHz Band

The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has approved the 6 GHz band (5925–6425 MHz) for Wi-Fi 7. This approval allows Pakistan to adopt the latest wireless technology.

PTA said Wi-Fi 7 will provide the fastest data speeds in the country. It will improve high-resolution video streaming, virtual and augmented reality (AR/VR), and industrial automation. The technology will also reduce broadband costs, ease congestion on older spectrum bands, and enhance network reliability.

The new technology will benefit households, businesses, educational institutions, healthcare facilities, and smart city projects. With this approval, Pakistan becomes one of the early adopters of Wi-Fi 7 in the Asia-Pacific region.

PTA highlighted that Wi-Fi 7 offers minimal latency, high reliability, and fast data speeds. These features are essential for 8K streaming and other next-generation applications. This approval follows the earlier introduction of Wi-Fi 6E, showing Pakistan’s steady progress in digital infrastructure.

Federal Minister for Information Technology and Telecommunication, Shaza Fatima Khawaja, said Pakistan plans to launch 5G services in seven major cities within months. She added that the government is also taking steps to provide more reliable internet nationwide.

Khawaja emphasized that information technology will be a “core element” of the Pakistan-Saudi agreement. The partnership aims to strengthen Pakistan’s digital infrastructure and support economic growth. She also highlighted improving macroeconomic conditions, including stabilizing inflation and economic stability.

PTA’s approval of Wi-Fi 7 marks a significant step toward faster, more reliable, and future-ready digital connectivity. This move aligns with Pakistan’s broader goal of advancing technology and supporting smart city development.

With this step, PTA continues to play a key role in shaping Pakistan’s digital future, ensuring residents and businesses have access to high-speed, efficient internet.
