US President Donald Trump sparked a global trade war by imposing reciprocal tariffs on foreign imports, raising concerns over sharp price increases for goods like Apple iPhones.

The tariffs could push iPhone prices in the US to $3,500, as Apple imports a significant portion of its phones from China.

However, Pakistan might benefit from this tariff war, as the PTA-approved iPhones could remain cheaper than in the US.

A local tech expert clarified that since the tariffs apply to products, not companies, iPhones imported through the UAE or other countries won’t be affected by Trump’s tariffs. Therefore, upcoming models like the iPhone 17 will be more affordable in Pakistan.

Earlier this month, Trump imposed hefty tariffs on nearly all imports, including 29% on Pakistan, intensifying trade tensions. The new tariffs are part of a broader strategy, also including a 10% baseline tariff on all imports to the US starting April 5.

Pakistan condemned the 29% tariff, warning that it could harm its export-driven economy. The country had already imposed a 58% tariff on US goods in retaliation. Officials are expected to announce countermeasures soon, further complicating US-Pakistan trade relations.

With its economy already facing challenges, Pakistan’s export sectors, including textiles, could be hit hard by these tariffs, leading to higher costs for imported goods and escalating economic difficulties.
