Record-Breaking Day for PSX What Stocks Drove the Rally

The Pakistan Stock Exchange (PSX) reached a new all-time high on Tuesday as the KSE-100 index surged over 2,600 points. Investor sentiment remained positive, driven largely by gains in the banking sector.

The benchmark KSE-100 index rose 1.68 percent, or 3,073 points, to touch 185,481 points at its peak. It later closed at 185,062, up 1.45 percent or 2,653 points, marking the highest closing level in PSX history.

Trading volume during the session totaled 596.9 million shares, with a turnover of Rs. 67.75 billion. A total of 563 companies traded, of which 238 advanced, 218 declined, and 107 remained unchanged, reflecting broad market participation.

The banking sector was the main driver of the rally. MCB Pakistan (MCB PA) surged 7.9%, United Bank Limited (UBL PA) rose 3.06%, and Meezan Bank (MEBL PA) added 4.98%. UBL also became the largest listed company on PSX by market capitalization, surpassing oil and gas giant OGDC, with a market value of roughly $4.6 billion.

Not all sectors participated in the gains. Pakistan State Oil (PSEL PA) fell 5.52%, while Pakistan Petroleum Limited (PPL PA) and Engro Fertilizers (EFERT PA) declined 1.15% and 1.05%, respectively.

The technology and telecom sector saw strong movement as AIRLINK PA jumped 6.62% following the government’s Mobile and Electronic Devices Manufacturing Policy 2026-33. The proposed policy, including a ban on used mobile phone imports, was viewed as positive for local manufacturers and assemblers.

High-volume trading was led by K-Electric (KEL), with 109.6 million shares exchanged. Analysts noted the session highlighted a shift in market leadership from energy to financials, signaling growing investor confidence in Pakistan’s banking sector.
