Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq Takes Charge As HEC Executive DirectorAisam-Ul-Haq Reaches Final In His Last Major Tennis Event

Renowned academic and public health expert, Prof. Dr. Zia Ul Haq, has officially assumed office as the HEC Executive Director. He previously served as Vice Chancellor of Khyber Medical University (KMU), Peshawar, for six years, bringing extensive leadership experience to the role.

Dr. Zia Ul Haq is recognized internationally, ranking among the top 2% of scientists worldwide according to Stanford University. He has also been honored with the Sitara-i-Imtiaz by the President of Pakistan for his outstanding contributions to research and academia.

He holds an MBBS from Khyber Medical College and a PhD in Public Health from the University of Glasgow, UK. He also served as Convener of the Higher Education Task Force established by the Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, further showcasing his experience in national higher education initiatives.

During his tenure at KMU, Dr. Zia Ul Haq led remarkable progress in governance, financial management, academic standards, and research output. He has published 105 research papers and secured over Rs. 5 billion in competitive research grants, establishing a strong record in academic leadership.

His appointment as HEC Executive Director has been widely welcomed by academicians and stakeholders. Many expressed confidence that he will bring positive reforms and strengthen Pakistan’s higher education sector.

In his new role, Dr. Zia Ul Haq is expected to focus on addressing financial and administrative challenges. He will also promote a culture of excellence in teaching, research, and innovation across universities nationwide.
