Priyanka Chopra Urges Ceasefire in Palestine to Save Children

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text dp_text_size=”size-4″]Priyanka Chopra Jonas recently utilized her Instagram Stories to amplify a crucial message, calling for a ceasefire in Palestine amidst the distressing and destructive impact of Israeli bombardment. The post, originally shared by Priyanka, emanated from UNICEF, the United Nations agency dedicated to providing humanitarian aid to children globally.

The reposted content featured a quote attributed to Catherine Russell, the executive director of UNICEF, emphatically stating, “Children need a lasting humanitarian ceasefire.”

The accompanying caption, initially posted by UNICEF on December 2, shed light on the harrowing situation in the Gaza Strip, emphasizing the urgent need for a lasting ceasefire to protect the lives of innocent children.

Highlighting the alarming toll of violence, the caption stated, “Today, the Gaza Strip is once again the most dangerous place in the world to be a child. After seven days of respite from horrific violence, fighting has resumed.

More children will surely die as a result. Before the pause, more than 5,300 Palestinian children were reportedly killed in 48 days of relentless bombing – a figure that does not include many children still missing and presumed to be buried under rubble.”

Continuing, it expressed concern that if violence returned to its previous scale and intensity, hundreds more children would be killed and injured every day. The plea called on all parties involved to adhere to their obligations under international humanitarian law and ensure the protection and assistance of children. It further mentioned the positive impact of the humanitarian pause, such as the safe release of more than 30 children held hostage in Gaza and increased delivery of lifesaving supplies.

Priyanka’s advocacy for a ceasefire aligns with her participation in an open letter signed by several celebrities in November. The letter, addressed to the US Congress and President Joe Biden, urged immediate action for de-escalation and a ceasefire in Gaza amid a rising Palestinian death toll. Notable personalities such as Richard Gere, Hasan Minhaj, and the Hadid sisters, Gigi and Bella, joined the Indian superstar in rallying for peace in the region.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
